Welcome to ButtonQuailUSA!
These pages are the official site for the Button Quail hobby at the Eisenbeisz Family "Ranch", a.k.a. "The Rocking E". I'm Don Eisenbeisz, and I hope you enjoy the information presented here.
This site is dedicated to the species Coturnix Chinensis, synonymous with Excalfactoria Chinensis. Commonly called Button Quail in the United States, they are also known as King Quail in Australia, and in parts of Asia and Europe it is also known as the Asian Blue Breasted Quail.
Measuring only 4 1/2 inches in length, the button quail is the smallest of all of the quail species. Available in a beautiful array of colors and patterns, the button quail is a fascinating and enjoyable bird to raise, study, and admire.
Button quail, despite their small size, are true game birds, and can present specific challenges for the hobbyist. With a good understanding of their behavior and their general care requirements, and in meeting their basic needs, they are sure to entertain you, as well as a provide a fascinating demonstration of the avian life-cyle process. the wild, button quail live in single pairs
These birds are a natural addition to any aviary setting, co-existing very well with other birds, occupying the floor space generally ignored by the "high dwellers".
Button quail can be raised in a colony style aviary settings, as well as in separate caged pairs.
On this site you will learn more about the history of the button quail, where to find them, and how to care for them. You will also find useful resources to aid in the identification of your birds by sex and color, and how to breed for specific traits, colors, or patterns.
